DESCRIPTION:Looking to get connected with other graduate students and participate in a fun and supportive community? Consider joining a peer-designed and peer-facilitated affinity group! Affinity groups are affirming spaces to build community with fellow students who share experiences\, backgrounds\, and social identities. \nAffinity groups connect peers with shared interests and help students find personal and professional support. Nine Graduate Affinity Groups are being offered this semester: African Graduate Students\, BIPOC LGBTQIA2S+ Graduate Students\, Caribbean Graduate Students\, Chinese Graduate Students\, International Graduate Students\, Latino/a/e/x Graduate Students\, Multicultural Graduate Students\, Neurodiverse Graduate Students\, and Southeast Asian Graduate Students. While each group centers particular identities\, backgrounds\, or experiences\, all graduate students are welcome to participate\, regardless of identity or background. \nThere will be 9 events total\, one per affinity group. SUMMARY:Build Skills That Matter: Mental Health First Aid Certification for Grad Students (Register by 9/13)
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) focuses on the unique experiences and needs of the college community. This 8-hour training teaches you how to identify\, understand\, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in others. Participants will also learn how to help connect someone to appropriate care and to campus\, local\, and national resources. All classes are free\, and both virtual and in-person options will be available (depending on interest). \nIf this training is of interest to you\, please register your interest by September 13\, so you can receive sign up information.
