SUMMARY:Hiking at Jockey Hollow
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy this easy 6.5-mile trail along gurgling streams and rolling hills in the beautiful Morristown National Historical Park. We will be taking the Grand Loop Trail\, originally patrolled by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Jockey Hollow housed the main Continental Army\, with over 10\,000 soldiers\, during the “Hard Winter” of 1779-1780. This is believed to be the harshest winter in the area in recorded history. This encampment led to the largest mutiny during the American Revolutionary War. Some of the original huts built by this army have been restored and remain along the trail. \nPlease meet at the Cook Rec Center- Base Camp at 8:30 AM \nCost: $20 \nRegistration required. SUMMARY:Rutgers Tree Planting Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Rutgers Tree Planting Festival is a student-led university-wide event that\, at its core\, seeks to plant 3\,000 trees in the footprint of an abandoned roadway removed last year by Rutgers IP&O. This will be the first Miyawaki Forest (aka Tiny Forest) on the Rutgers University campus\, joining only a handful in New Jersey. \nWhile it is important to get the trees in the ground\, our goal\, developed in collaboration with the Rutgers Urban Forestry Program\, is to build community while giving students\, staff\, faculty\, alumni\, and community members first-hand experience in tree planting. The festival incorporates forestry outreach\, a collaborative art project by Scarlet Arts RX\, live music\, and food. \nWhile the environmental and ecological benefits of creating a forest are obvious\, the social benefits are underexplored\, and this festival explores how to foster a culture of stewardship in a fun and interactive way. \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ALL-DAY OUTDOOR EVENT. WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE PEOPLE WORKING AT DIFFERENT TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY.  PLEASE REGISTER AND SELECT A TIME SLOT DURING WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLANT TREES. OPTIONS ARE: \n\n 10am – 12 noon\n12 noon – 2pm\n2pm – 5pm\n\nRegistration link:  https://rutgers.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_41L7gvHGcte3Q2y \nRegistration for the tree planting closes on Friday (4/10)\, but there are many other activities people can come out and enjoy!
