SUMMARY:Rutgers Tree Planting Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Rutgers Tree Planting Festival is a student-led university-wide event that\, at its core\, seeks to plant 3\,000 trees in the footprint of an abandoned roadway removed last year by Rutgers IP&O. This will be the first Miyawaki Forest (aka Tiny Forest) on the Rutgers University campus\, joining only a handful in New Jersey. \nWhile it is important to get the trees in the ground\, our goal\, developed in collaboration with the Rutgers Urban Forestry Program\, is to build community while giving students\, staff\, faculty\, alumni\, and community members first-hand experience in tree planting. The festival incorporates forestry outreach\, a collaborative art project by Scarlet Arts RX\, live music\, and food. \nWhile the environmental and ecological benefits of creating a forest are obvious\, the social benefits are underexplored\, and this festival explores how to foster a culture of stewardship in a fun and interactive way. \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ALL-DAY OUTDOOR EVENT. WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE PEOPLE WORKING AT DIFFERENT TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY.  PLEASE REGISTER AND SELECT A TIME SLOT DURING WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLANT TREES. OPTIONS ARE: \n\n 10am – 12 noon\n12 noon – 2pm\n2pm – 5pm\n\nRegistration link:  https://rutgers.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_41L7gvHGcte3Q2y \nRegistration for the tree planting closes on Friday (4/10)\, but there are many other activities people can come out and enjoy!

SUMMARY:“The Things We Hold”: Workshop for Parents and Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Register to attend! Space limited to 12 families! \nJoin SPCR (Students\, Parents & Caregivers @ RU) for a workshop entitled “The Things We Hold”\, to explore the experiences of working mothers\, the multitasking\, the invisible labor\, and the things we carry in our daily lives. This workshop will be kid-friendly\, and participants will create a bag and fill it with the things they carry. Refreshments and beverages are also provided! \n“The Things We Hold” is a creative\, reflective workshop that invites mothers and children to explore what they carry in their lives\, both tangible and invisible. Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s idea that the first human tool might have been a bag\, participants create personalized “carrier bags” filled with objects\, memories\, feelings\, responsibilities\, dreams\, and routines. Through drawing\, writing\, decorating\, and collaborative conversation\, families reflect on what sustains\, burdens\, or delights them. The process encourages curiosity\, empathy\, and dialogue\, prompting questions like “Who carries this more?” or “Is this heavy or light?” The workshop concludes with a sharing circle and portrait documentation\, offering space to acknowledge both the visible and invisible parts of our daily lives\, and to consider what we might wish to carry less of. \nRegister here: https://rutgers.campuslabs.com/engage/event/12376661 \n  \n
